A glimpse into Sony Online Entertainment

Three weeks ago I made a spur of the moment decision to spend some time in San Diego during my vacation. After I booked my trip (Air miles + PriceLine.com = about $300 for flight plus three nights at a four star hotel), I decided to try to make visiting Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) a reality and the next day I had an appointment to meet Ashlanne during my trip. I was so ecstatic that I did a little dance at my desk (my co-workers thought I had finally gone insane). 

One week later, I took a cab from my hotel in the Gaslamp Quarter to the SOE office. I was paranoid about being late and nervous as if I was going to an interview. I arrived half an hour early and fidgeted in the lobby while waiting. Ashlanne was ready for me a few minutes later. 

First we visited the Community Team’s area. I met several members of the community team (advance apologies if I get names mixed up!). Zatozia’s cube is decorated like a torture chamber. I’d seen at least one picture before but it didn’t do it justice (I regret not snapping a couple of my own). 

I’m not so good with words.

I’ve never been much of a writer. It’s something I do to amuse myself, not something I do because I’m any good at it. But every once in a while something happens (particularly at work) that makes me laugh and think “I should blog about this”. I had one of those moments today so instead of finishing my post about visiting SOE, I thought I’d share my silly story.

I’ve had a horrible headache today, so when I was teaching someone (Senior Helpdesk Guy) how to set up a salesperson in our fulfillment system, I just couldn’t come up with the right words. Senior Helpdesk Guy was typing in the alpha numeric code that we use to identify sales people, but typed it in mixed upper and lower case.

San Diego, here I come!

I love to travel. When I was in middle school, I went to Russia with a club from my school. When I was a teenager it was day trips to Seattle on the bus. In my adult years it has almost all been about work. I made a couple of trips to Hawaii while I still had family there, and last spring my hubby and I went to Disney Land. Otherwise, my travels have mostly been to our office in Phoenix and once to England.

I have always wanted to buy a plane ticket on a whim and travel somewhere new. And to go all alone. To have the freedom to do what I want, when I want. To sit and read by the pool, stroll down the beach, spend 2 hours studying a painting in a museum, or perhaps just wander the city.
